Dr. Susan Stone is a Change Agent! Throughout her career she has been at the forefront of organizational change to improve systems and outcomes in the hospital environment. She is currently the Senior Vice President Health System Operations and System Chief Nursing Executive for Sharp HealthCare. Susan joined Sharp HealthCare in 1986 holding numerous leadership positions including Chief Executive Officer of Sharp Coronado Hospital, Chief Nursing Officer for two of Sharp’s seven hospitals. In these positions she successfully led efforts to achieve multiple gold Planetree Person and Family Centered Care and Magnet Nursing Excellence Designations.

Dr. Stone’s research has been featured in the peer reviewed Health Environments Research and Design Journal and she was a contributing author to the 2008 Patient-Centered Care Improvement Guide. She serves on the Planetree International Board of Directors and the San Diego Blood Bank Board of Directors. Dr. Stone’s ongoing efforts to improve the lives of women and girls, her efforts to improve community wellness and advance person and family centered care internationally have been recognized by the Coronado City Council, Planetree International, San Diego State University, Soroptimist of Coronado, YWCA and the University of San Diego. She earned her Bachelor of Nursing Science at San Diego State University, a Master and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science at the University of San Diego is an international Planetree Fellow, a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a fellow in the Health Management Academy.

Susan’s interests are international adventure travel and endurance sports including sprint triathlon, century bike rides, cross training, and spending time with family and friends. Susan resides in Coronado, California.
