Dan Mather is a Veteran, Father, Husband, Speaker, and a Transformative Healthcare Leader who has a penchant for conquering healthcare obstacles by using teamwork, collaboration, system development, LEAN methodologies, technology integration, and most importantly, compassion and empathy. Dan grew up on a small Midwest Kansas farm which he still credits his driven work ethic to. At the age of 21 he decided to join the Army to serve his country and 7 years and two combat deployments later he fell in love with the art of medicine, and the impact it can have on the lives of his soldiers. During his military career he was awarded numerous awards such as the Hero of Hosenfeld Award, awards for solving critical battlefield medical care concerns, was the Commandant Top Graduate of the Primary Leadership Development Course, and was Kansas’s 2006 Soldier of the year.
After his time in the Army as a Combat Medic he transitioned to the civilian sector and worked EMS and as a nurse aide until he completed nursing school and then worked as a nurse in Critical Care (ICU, Step Down, and Cath Lab.)Working in Critical Care he fell in love with bedside nursing and saw the tremendous impact that healthcare workers can have on the lives of their patients. He was quickly promoted to a Nurse Manager and then the Director of Critical Care for his organization overseeing appx. 150 FTE’s and 5 departments. During this time he also went on to complete his Master’s Degree in Executive Nursing Leadership through Ottawa University. He is involved with the Kansas Hospital Association, Kansas Organization of Nursing Leaders, HOSA, and serves as a leader mentor and leadership/ healthcare public speaker. He has recently been promoted to the Director of Clinic Operations for his system.
As a leader Dan continues to drive his passion for teamwork based, high quality safe patient care. His teams have excelled in safety measures, patient experience, and staff engagement/ retention. His goal is simple, to make the world a little better every day. His hobbies include spending quality time with his family, restoring classic cars, working on home projects, working out, and competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
